How much do appliance repair technicians make in Dallas, TX?⌄
At Hype Appliance Repair & Cleaning, technicians earn $22–$52 per hour based on experience and certifications, plus a production bonus averaging $3–$8 per hour. Lead technicians earn $80,000–$110,000 per year all-in (base + bonus + profit-sharing). According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median appliance repair technician in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro earns $49,820 per year — our average Senior Tech earns $75,000–$90,000. Apprentices earn $18–$22 per hour while learning, with promotion to Technician ($24–$28/hr) in 12–18 months.
Do I need a license to be an appliance repair technician in Texas?⌄
Yes. Texas requires appliance repair technicians who work on refrigeration (anything with a compressor — refrigerators, freezers, wine coolers, ice makers, AC systems) to hold a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Contractor License (TACL) or be a registered Technician under a licensed contractor. We sponsor your TDLR registration ($150) and EPA 608 certification ($200) within your first 90 days if you don't already have them. For non-refrigeration work (washers, dryers, ovens, dishwashers), no TDLR license is required — but we still register all our technicians.
What certifications do I need to work at Hype Appliance Repair?⌄
Required for all field technicians: Texas TDLR registration (we sponsor), EPA 608 Type I minimum (Universal preferred — we sponsor upgrade), valid Texas driver license with clean record (last 3 years), and pass a background check and drug screen. For senior and lead roles, we require Sub-Zero Group Factory-Certified or equivalent premium-brand certification. Nice-to-haves: Bosch, LG, Samsung, GE Monogram, Whirlpool factory certifications. We pay for all factory training and continuing education — $1,500–$2,500 annual budget per technician depending on level.
What's the schedule like for a technician at Hype Appliance Repair?⌄
Technicians work 5 days × 8 hours — typically 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM with a 1-hour lunch. We do NOT do mandatory on-call or after-hours rotations (except 1 weekend per quarter for Lead Technicians). Saturday overtime is optional and paid at 1.5×. We respect your evenings and weekends — that's why our technician retention is strong. Dispatchers and warehouse staff work Monday–Friday only.
Do technicians take the truck home?⌄
Yes. Every full-time technician takes their assigned Ford Transit 250 home — no need to commute to the warehouse first. We pay for gas, insurance, maintenance, and weekly parts restocking at your home or a designated drop point. You only pay for your personal commute mileage. The truck is for company use only (per our insurance), but it's 'your' truck for as long as you're on the team.
What tools do I need to bring vs what does the company provide?⌄
You bring: a basic hand tool set (screwdrivers, sockets, wrenches, pliers, multimeter, etc.) — apprentices get a $500 tool allowance to start, $500 more at 6 months, $500 more at 12 months. We provide: all specialty tools (vacuum pump, recovery unit, manifold gauges, leak detector), all OEM parts inventory stocked on your truck, the dispatch tablet, a company phone stipend, uniforms, and PPE. If you don't own tools yet, we have a payroll-deduction program with Snap-on and Matco at 0% interest.
Do you hire apprentices with no experience?⌄
Yes — we hire apprentices through our Apprentice Program. No prior appliance repair experience required. We look for mechanical aptitude (have you fixed things around the house? worked on your car? built computers?), customer-service mindset, a clean driving record (you'll drive company vehicles), and a willingness to learn. We pay for your TDLR registration, EPA 608 certification, and initial factory training. Apprentices start at $18–$22/hr and promote to Technician ($24–$28/hr) in 12–18 months. Is Hype Appliance Repair a franchise or family-owned business?⌄
We are independently owned and operated. We are not a franchise, not private equity-backed, and not part of a national chain. That means: no corporate red tape, decisions get made in hours not weeks, and our technicians talk to the owner directly when they need something. We've grown through referrals and repeat customers — and we're proud of it.
How long does the hiring process take?⌄
Typically 7–10 business days from application to offer. Step 1: phone screen with our Operations Manager (30 min). Step 2: in-person interview + technical assessment (90 min — you'll diagnose a broken appliance in our shop). Step 3: ride-along with a senior technician for half a day (4 hours, paid at $25/hr). Step 4: background check and drug screen (3–5 business days). Step 5: offer letter and start date. We move fast for strong candidates — we've made offers same-day after ride-alongs.
What's the diversity and inclusion commitment at Hype Appliance Repair?⌄
We serve a diverse DFW metro — 40% of our customers prefer Spanish — and our team reflects that. We hire for skill, character, and customer-service mindset. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic. We know talent comes from anywhere.
What if I have a criminal record?⌄
We review criminal records case-by-case. We do not have a blanket ban. We consider: nature of the offense, time since the offense, age at time of offense, evidence of rehabilitation, and relevance to the position. Apply and let's talk.
